No free ride for anyone.
This American prison drama has one character with no hopes, who makes no attempt to help anybody else. He’s prison officer Valdez, tough-cop on the cell-block and willing to put anyone down, whether by asserting his power over prisoners or being dismissive of a fellow warder. He can give a prisoner a moment of hope then pop it out. Or he’ll walk off to the canteen, emphasising that he’s free to do so.
Alongside this mean streak outright aggression can boil through the sarcasm; he gives no-on
